Core Therapeutic Riding and Horsemanship Program
For more than twenty years the heart of Pegasus' equine assisted therapeutic programs has been the combination of therapeutic riding and horsemanship. Therapeutic riding allows persons with disabilities to improve their motor, cognitive, perceptual and social development. Through this program, participants enjoy a freedom of movement and a sense of control they may not otherwise experience in day-to-day life, as well as an opportunity for socialization in a safe environment. Riders build self confidence as well as physical strength and coordination.
Most participants have lessons one day per week throughout the year. Riders are grouped into classes of about six people with similar age and riding abilities. Lessons last approximately one hour and are available six days a week.
Riding may occur in our indoor, heated arena, one of several outdoor arenas or on our wooded trails.
As part of this program, participants also learn horsemanship skills such as how to groom and tack (saddle) a horse.
